Compassion Without
Borders is a program designed to galvanize the collective energies of our
incredible Suffolk
County high school
students. Each year, under the direction
of the Suffolk County Principals’ Association, the area’s finest student
leaders will assemble with the express purpose of identifying important causes within
our schools and communities. The newly
created Suffolk County High School Leadership Council will offer both material
and intellectual support for county-wide endeavors and prove that enlightened
leadership knows no geographic boundaries.
For this special moment in time the mascots, traditions, and decades old
pride that differentiate each of our Suffolk High Schools will blend together
in on grand mosaic of compassion. Caravan of Compassion: Compassion Without Borders was officially launched on October 22nd at Harborfields High School. Student
leaders from all Suffolk County High Schools will be meeting Dylan
Thompson, a sophomore at Harborfields High School. Dylan suffers from
Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. This serious condition confines Dylan to a
wheelchair and presents him with a myriad of health related issues. Our
goal is to help build Dylan a handicap accessible home, which helps
ease his family's burdens as they cope with the challenges of his
disease. Pictured above is Edward William Casswell, President of the
SCHSPA, Dylan Thompson and John Dolan, Vice President of the SCHSPA.
Dylan was the featured guest at a recent SCHSPA general meeting.
